Thanks to a great partnership between Riverside Adventures and Lions Tamahere, those with mobility issues are now able to get outdoors and experience Te Awa and other trails, on an electric Tricycle!

This fantastic trike is free for the community to use and is specially designed for anyone in a wheelchair or those who aren’t able to ride themselves.

Come check it out, take it for a test ride, or book in for a future ride. It’s a wonderful opportunity to experience the joy of cycling and the wind in your hair along the Te Awa River Ride with ease and accessibility!

FAQ on the Te Awa Trickshaw

How does it work?
It’s just like a Rickshaw! The passenger sits on the front (in either their wheelchair or on a seat) and is driven by a Rider. It has a powerful motor, so no probs taking you along any part of the trail – hilly or otherwise! A full briefing will be given to the Rider and passenger before you take off.

Who can use the Trike?
The Trike is available for all disabled or mobility challenged users.

Do I need someone to ride the trike for me?
At present, you do need to bring someone to ride the Trike. They will be given full training by the Riverside Adventures staff! In future, there will be volunteers available to take users for rides.

What do I need?
All you need is yourself and someone to ride the trike. A helmet is provided, and a wheelchair is available if you do not have your own.

What does it cost?
To use the Trike from the velodrome, it is completely FREE! If you would like the trike transported to/from another destination, there will be a charge for that. Contact the team at Riverside Adventures for more information: [email protected]

How long can I use the Trike for?
Generally it will be booked for a Half Day – morning or afternoon. But chat to the Riverside Adventures team if you have a specific request!

Is there anything else I need to know?
Please turn up half an hour before your booking for you and your rider to go through the Safety Briefing.
