Cambridge to Lake Karapiro
As you leave Cambridge, you’ll travel past homes of some of New Zealand’s finest racehorses on your way to Lake Karapiro – home to New Zealand’s finest rowers! Look out for foals in paddocks and rowers on the Lake and make time to stop for a rest or refreshments on the shores of our stunning Lake Karapiro!

Distance: 8km
Difficulty: Grade 1-2
Highlights: Boardwalks, horse studs and the spectacular Lake Karapiro! Watch out for those racehorses if you’re out early, you could well see some Olympic rowers and kayakers out on the water too! Make time to stop at Podium Café at the lake for the best café views in Cambridge, or in summer you can’t go past the Karapiro Berry Box on Maungatautari Rd for a real fruit ice-cream to fuel your ride home!
Notes: The path is dead flat leaving Cambridge at Carlyle St in Leamington, with a few short but steep hills just as you head towards and then beside the lake.
